Presentation
In the presentation, “Healthy Lifestyles in Aging”, Lisa Dunning uses a PowerPoint presentation to:
- First, critical need is established through documenting average life expectancy and the prevalence rate of cognitive decline due to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in the coming years.
- Next, ethos or professional credentials and description of professional experience as a Special Education Teacher teaching students with severe disability are provided.
- Following ethos, logos or the logical plan to solve the problem of controlling memory loss is outlined. This logical plan discusses recent research in: neuronal plasticity; nutrition; physical activity; social interaction; mental stimulation; and the successful outcomes of a pilot study conducted by Healthy Lifestyles in Aging, Inc. in 2006.
- Third, pathos or the passion to solve the growing problem of memory loss due to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is shared with session participants.
- In closing, specific examples of viable activities to decrease effects of dementia are provided. Session participants will:
- increase an awareness of research based strategies to increase cognitive reserve for improved memory and
- provide specific activity to control memory loss for older individuals living at home or in long-term health care centers.
Presentation Critique
“Lisa has always been a pleasure to work with. She always presents with energy and vitality to her groups as well as to her clients. Her presentation was extremely informative to the group regarding cognition and Parkinson’s, but it also provided them a potential answer to avoid those possible pitfalls through the services she offers through Healthy Lifestyles in Aging, Inc. She was direct and very interactive with the group and they were extremely responsive to her, with many of them complementing her presentation.”

"I felt that Lisa Dunning's presentation to TBL about Healthy Lifestyles in Aging was timely and well presented. I was very impressed with her process and approach to memory loss. Lisa had a lot of great ideas on physical exercise and mental health and how working both would help short-term memory. If you are on the fence about using Healthy Lifestyles in Aging, Inc. I would say to you that you are missing out if you do not employ her services!"
Brady Nguyen - TBL member / Allstate Agent.
“I found the presentation fascinating with your style of delivery and ability to keep volunteers interested and active in their listening. It was easy to follow with the slides and visual materials accompanying the lecture. I especially enjoyed the displaying and sampling of nutritious food. This use of tangible materials is relevant in helping senior citizens understand how nutrition does not have to be boring. I feel it was an excellent way to engage several sense, making the presentation stimulating and memorable.”
